While his counterparts are celebrating 100 days in office with infinitesimal projects, the Chairman, Warri north local government area of Delta state, Hon. Festus Ashima, is meticulously building gigantic projects outlined for inauguration to mark his one year anniversary in office.
This is an uncommon feat, unknown to nowadays politicians, particularly those anointed by their godfathers to rule the people rather than lead by showing example.
Hon. Ashima, spoke Friday November 22, 2024, shortly after inspecting these ongoing projects in Koko, the administrative headquarters of Warri north local area.
The Chairman, who is desirous to deliver quality projects to Warri north and by extension Deltans in line with his campaign promises, said some of these projects line up for the one year anniversary has been completed and would be commissioned December 20, by the Olu of Warri, Ogiame, Atuwase III.
Some projects toured by journalists during the inspection led by the Chairman and his team includes the Chairman’s Office Complex with administrative offices, the new Warri North Legislative Building, Chairman’s Lodge amongst others.
Addressing newsmen, he said: “you know this local government is 95 per cent riverine.
“So, there are other projects that are ongoing across the local government council. In my one year in office, all the projects will be ready for commissioning.
“But these other ones, I am preparing them for His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, the Executive Governor of Delta state.
“These projects are capital intensive, they are not small projects that the governor will not be able to come and commission”.
At the Lodge, he said: “there is a project here before, but I am doing a facelift. I don’t want to mark my one year in office with ongoing projects.
“I want to appreciate His Excellency, the governor of Delta state, he is not looking at local government funds.
“The governor himself is working. So, those of us who are the local government chairmen, we have no option. So, the governor is showing a very good example.
“It the first of its kind bringing Julius Berger to come and work in this state. So, he is showing a very good example that we must emulate”, he insisted.
