Veteran Journalist Asiwaju Adebayo Covers N2.5 Million Medical Bill For Colleague In Delta

Veteran journalist Asiwaju Sola Adebayo has once again demonstrated the power of camaraderie and humanity within the journalism profession.

When news reached him about the critical condition of his colleague, Comrafe Dave Okpogadie, who had been hospitalized after a major surgery of mouth Cancer at Asaba Specialist Hospital in Delta State and is going to Enugu State for further treatment, Adebayo who was recently honoured by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, with an award of excellence, wasted no time.

Adebayo, a former Bureau Chief of the Vanguard, Punch, and National Mirror Newspapers for over three decades, despite his packed schedule, he immediately reached out to ascertain the extent of Okpogadie’s plight.

Realizing that mounting medical bills threatened his colleague’s treatment, Adebayo stepped in, settling the debt in full and ensuring that Okpogadie received uninterrupted care.

His act of generosity not only relieved the financial burden on Okpogadie’s family but also sent ripples of hope through the local journalism community, emphasizing the importance of solidarity.

This followed a request made by the State Welfare Committee Chairman, Ruth Omigie, on the WhatsApp platform of NUJ, seeking financial assistance for Comrade Okpogadie’s medical treatment.

In a note of appreciation for the donor’s generous support, Asiwaju Sola Adebayo, the State Council Chairman, Comrade Churchill Oyowe, and Secretary, Comrade Victor Sorokwu, expressed gratitude for his timely intervention on behalf of Okpogadie.
