[UPDATED]DELTA 2023: Judge Washes Hand Off Guber Case

A Federal High Court Judge in Asaba, Delta State, Justice F.A. Olubanjo, has rescued herself from the governorship litigation involving the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), and the candidate of the party, Sheriff Oborevwori, to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Abuja.

The Federal High Court sitting in Asaba, the Delta State capital on Friday transfered the cases involving the PDP standard bearer for 2023 governorship election, Mr. Sheriff Oborevwori over discrepancies in his certificates.

In separate suit No. FHC/ASB/CS/78/2022 between Engr. Ojei Victor Obianuju, Maize and Associates Farmers as plaintiff and Sheriff Oborevwori Francis, Peoples’ Democratic Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as defendants.

In another suit No. FHC/ASB/CS/79/2022 between Kanaba Ovie Duke, Osigidi Amos and Oborevwori Sheriff Francis Orohwodor, People’s Democratic Party.

The presiding Judge, Justice F.A. Olubanjo on hearing the case said the court is transferring the matter to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court to reassign the case and rescued herself for reason of interest.

Shortly after the sitting, the two cousel to plaintiffs, Harry Ochei and K.C Chibo said they are waiting for the case to be assigned.

“What happened in court was that the judge said the case will be transferred to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court for re-assignment”.

The presiding judge of the Federal High Court, Justice F.A. Olubanjo, sitting in Asaba, the state capital, has recused herself from a case involving the Delta State House of Assembly Speaker and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Sheriff Oborevwori in the forthcoming 2023 general elections over discrepancies in his academic credentials.

The matters which were billed for Friday, for ruling, was referred back to the Chief Judge of Federal High Court, by the presiding judge, Justice F.A. Olubanjo, saying, she had recused herself from the case over personal reasons which she did not mention.

It was alleged that the state government has mounted pressure on Justice Olubanjo to do their bidding and following the pressure on her, she decided to recuse herself from the case.

It would be recall that The Story, had earlier reported that a yet to be identified Federal High Court Judge, has washed off her hands from a governorship litigation involving the Delta State chapter of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP).
