Contrary to claims that the Acting President General of Otor-Ihwreko Community, Engr. David Omotor was kidnapped, facts have emerged that police operatives drafted from Zone 5, Benin City in Edo State, arrested him at Isodje junction in Oteri town, Ughelli north local government area of Delta State while dropping off his wife at her shop at about 7:45am on Friday April 7th 2023, The Story can authoritatively report.
Addressing newsmen, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Otor-Iwhreko, Mr. Ejomafuvwe Emariavworhe said, “I got a distress called that our president general, Engr David Omotor is being kidnapped by unknown men in mufti and was bundled into unregistered vehicle after he was brutally manhandled and beaten to stupor.
“We are not happy about the incident and that is why we barricaded the road and shut down the market in protest for our PG to be released.”
A resident of the community, Mr Emegere Ejovwokoghene who condemned the rascality, appealed the state government and Delta state commissioner of police to investigate the incident.
He said, “We have lost confidence in police because the last time one of our person was taken, those that went to incident that case at the Ughelli Area Command were detained.
“We are appealing to the local government chairman, state governor and commissioner of police Delta state to resolve the issues so that people can sleep with their eyes closed.”
Condemning the alleged kidnapped of Engr David Omotor, Chief Victor Edjelekpo berated the actions of the security agents over community affairs.
“What we see here is a mispriority on the side of the security agencies because the issue on ground is a community affair and the community has the right to elect who governs their people.
“For a while, some persons have being in the office of governance and when the people deem it fit to pass vote of no confidence, they ought to have obey and seek redress.
“But in the contrary, they go to the police and use the police agency as a means of intimidation which is very wrong.
“They have gone to the point that the courts in Ughellli have been proliferated and the Otor-Iwhreko community has over 50 court cases with one person only who has been moving from division to Area Command, to CP and zone.
“The Police Act prescribed the way and manner the (Police) should act, but i see no reason why they are not imploring it and i do not know if it is because of the monetary profit or gain they are after.
“I am appealing to the newly promoted Delta State Commissioner of Police to call his men to order by inviting whoever that is petitioned rather than bursting the people to cause confusion and disorganization.”
Contacted, the Delta state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Edafe Bright said, “He was arrested by operatives from zone 5 and not kidnapped, nobody is above the law.
“The people have been talked to and the area is calm, If they have any issue, they should get their lawyers and go to zone 5 and sort themselves out, the area is calm now.” he stated.
It would be recalled that the Otor-Iwhreko community has been at loggerhead over leadership tussle which has resulted to multiple arrest and court cases.
It would be recall that The Story, had earlier reported that Leadership tussle rocked Delta State’s sleepy town of Otor-Ihwreko Community, following tussle over the leadership of the town union.
