… It was a false alarm — PPRO

Two suspected motorcycle thieves, whose names were yet to be ascertained, have been reportedly killed by a mob in in Boji-Boji Owa in Ika North east local government area of Delta State.

The ugly development, which occured in an eatery, saw the mob meting out ā€˜jungle justiceā€™ to the suspects.

It was gathered that the suspects had been terrorizing Boji-Boji area and its environs.

It was gathered that the action of the mob was due to the incessant stealing of motorcycles otherwise known as Okada in the locality, causing the mob lynched the two young men to death.

According to an eye witness account, the two young men in their 30s were apprehended while trying to steal a motorcycle parked in a popular eatery along the Old Lagos Asaba Road.

It was learnt that the suspects came from one of the states in the East to carry out their nefarious act before they met their waterloo.

Every attempt made by newsmen to speak with the suspected hoodlums proved abortive as the irate crowd would not stop descending on them.

Speaking to newsmen, a resident of the locality who gave his name as Mr. Obodo expressed his worries over the incessant cases of motorcycle theft in the locality.

ā€œI have been a victim twice. What baffles me the most, is that these miscreants kill or inflict various degrees of injuries on their victims.

“They go about looking for new bikes to steal. I don’t know the chemical they use in breaking locks or how they can leave a bike out of a tall fence without stress.

“I am not happy with what happened to these fellows but the issue is that when they are arrested by security operatives they usually find their ways out in the society and continue to commit havoc,” he stated.

But in swift reaction, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Edafe Bright, who confirmed the mobbing, said it was a false alarm.

According to police spokesman, a false alarm was raised against the two boys who got rescued early by operatives of the Command.

Hear him: “It was a false alarm and the two boys were mobbed, but the police got to the scene on time and rescued them and taken to the hospital, till this moment, there is no complain at the police station against them”.
