Asaba, March 14, 2025 – The Publisher of The Story Publishing House, a renown online outfit, Mr. Kenneth Orusi, has called on High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, aka, Tompolo, to intervene in the ongoing crisis between Okuama and Okoloba communities, Ughelli south and Bomadi local government areas in Delta State.
Orusi, who has received numerous awards for his contributions to journalism and community development, made the appeal during a press briefing in Warri.
He lamented that the conflict between the two neighboring communities had escalated on March 14, 2024, leading to the death of 17 soldiers, violence, displacement of residents, and destruction of property.
According to Orusi, the crisis threatens the stability of the region and undermines efforts toward development and peace in Delta State.
Speaking passionately about the issue, Orusi emphasized the need for Tompolo, a well-respected Ijaw leader and peace builder, to use his influence and wealth of experience to mediate between the warring communities.
“Tompolo has always been a symbol of peace and a stabilizing force in the Niger Delta. His intervention is critical to resolving this crisis and restoring harmony between Okuama and Okoloba.
“I humbly appeal to him to step in and bring his wealth of wisdom to bear on this matter,” Orusi said.
The publisher also highlighted the importance of preserving his legacy as a voice for peace and justice, which has earned him several accolades over the years.
He noted that the ongoing crisis has not only affected the communities directly involved but also there are far-reaching implications for the social and economic stability of the entire region.
“As someone who has dedicated my career to amplifying the voices of the marginalized and promoting peace, I feel a personal responsibility to see that this crisis is resolved.
“However, the efforts of individuals like me cannot succeed without the involvement of prominent leaders like Tompolo, whose track record in peace building is unmatched,” he added.
Orusi further called on other stakeholders, including government officials, traditional rulers, and community leaders, to support Tompolo in mediating a lasting resolution.
He urged all parties involved to embrace dialogue and set aside personal grievances for the greater good of the region.
The publisher concluded his appeal by expressing hope that the intervention of Tompolo and other key figures would lead to a peaceful resolution, thus sustaining the social harmony and progress that Delta State is known for.
“Tompolo has an opportunity to further cement his legacy as a true leader of the Niger Delta by stepping in to resolve this conflict.
The people of Okuama and Okoloba need peace, and I believe he is the right person to help bring it about,” Orusi said.
Meanwhile, the call for Tompolo’s intervention has garnered widespread support from community members, youth groups, and civil society organizations, who recognizes the urgent need for peace in the troubled region
