Tantita Deploys Long-Range Drones, Trains NSCDC Officers To Bolster Oil Pipeline Security

In a bid to strengthen the fight against crude oil theft in the Niger Delta, Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL) has announced the deployment of advanced drones capable of flying for up to 16 hours to monitor pipelines and other critical oil infrastructure.

The disclosure was made during a three-day capacity-building programme held at the Jubilee Centre in Effurun, Delta State, from Monday, August 18, 2025.

The exercise brought together 100 officers of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and TSSNL operatives for intensive training on intelligence gathering, surveillance, and suspect handling.

Speaking at the event, TSSNL’s Executive Director of Operations, Capt. Warredi Enisuoh, said the adoption of drone technology would significantly reduce the challenges of monitoring the creeks and difficult terrains.

He explained that the innovation would enable personnel to concentrate on rapid response rather than endless manual patrols.

Enisuoh emphasized that although Tantita is not licensed to bear arms, effective collaboration with the Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force, DSS, and NSCDC has provided the necessary security cover to safeguard oil installations.

“If not for the men and women in the creeks, we would not have achieved this. That is why this training is very important, take it seriously,” he told participants.

Since securing pipeline protection contracts in 2022, TSSNL maintains that major oil facilities under its surveillance have remained “green,” while illegal refining activities in its areas of operation have been drastically curtailed.

In his remarks, TSSNL Managing Director, High Chief Kestin Pondi, represented by retired Brigadier General Efe Dafioghor, described the training as both timely and strategic.

He stressed that effective protection of oil infrastructure is critical to Nigeria’s economic stability, urging participants to embrace best practices in surveillance and inter-agency cooperation.

“The greener the pipelines remain, the stronger the nation’s resources,” he noted.
