Senator Nwoko Hails Historic Milestone in Sports Education

The Sports University of Nigeria (SUN), Idumuje-Ugboko, Delta State, marked a historic moment on Thursday, March 6, 2025, as it held its first-ever matriculation ceremony, officially welcoming 98 pioneer students into its academic fold.

The combined ceremony for the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 academic sessions signified a major step forward in the university’s mission to revolutionize sports education in Nigeria and across Africa.

Sharing his thoughts via his X (Twitter) handle, the institution’s Founder and Chancellor, Senator Prince Ned Nwoko, described the occasion as a significant achievement in advancing sports education.

“As Founder and Chancellor, I take immense pride in witnessing this vision come to life, a university where young talents seamlessly integrate academics with professional sports training, shaping them into well-rounded scholars and athletes,” he stated.

Senator Nwoko reiterated that the institution was designed to produce future champions and intellectuals who would not only thrive in sports but also contribute meaningfully to society on a global scale.

Addressing the newly admitted students, he urged them to uphold the university’s core values of discipline, dedication, and excellence while embracing the opportunity to combine world-class education with elite sports training.

With this landmark matriculation, the Sports University of Nigeria (SUN) has officially positioned itself as the country’s first sports-focused tertiary institution, paving the way for a new generation of scholar-athletes.
