The Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Comrade Nkem Nwaeke, has urged journalists, particularly those in the Warri region, to cultivate positive relationships with both government and private sectors.

This appeal was made during an unscheduled visit to the newly completed Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Warri Correspondents’ Chapel Secretariat, “the High Chief (Dr.) Oweizide Government Ekpemupolo Press Centre”, which was built and furnished by Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited.

Comrade Nwaeke expressed his appreciation to Tantita Security Services for their generous contribution, emphasizing that the gesture was motivated by the journalists’ consistent quality reporting and collaboration.

“On behalf of the Right Honourable Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, the dynamic Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, I extend our heartfelt thanks to Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited for this remarkable gesture.

“I also congratulate Mr. Chairman and all members of the Warri Correspondent Chapel on this achievement,” Nwaeke stated.

“For years, the chapel operated without a purpose-built facility. This impressive complex marks a significant change, providing journalists with a functional and dignified space to work, collaborate, and file reports.”

He added, “This investment in media infrastructure reflects a recognition of the press as a crucial democratic institution and highlights the strong relationship between the chapel’s members and the donor. Such initiatives are commendable and should be emulated.”

The Chief Press Secretary lauded the development as a significant boost for journalism in Delta State, encouraging practitioners to report responsibly and maintain a cooperative relationship with the state government, led by Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori.

He praised the collaboration between private sector support and public leadership that enabled the project’s completion and expressed hope that other organizations would undertake similar initiatives to strengthen media practices.

“Journalists in Warri now have more than just a workplace; they have a professional home. I urge you to continue fostering constructive engagement with both state and non-state actors.

“Remember, responsible reporting and public education are central to governance and fostering civic trust,” Nwaeke emphasized.

During the visit, Chapel Chairman Comrade Victor Okpomor expressed his gratitude to Tantita Security Services for their generosity, stating that the secretariat symbolizes professional identity and institutional stability.

He noted the practical benefits of the facility for reporters in Warri and described it as a long-overdue development that will enhance the morale of local journalists.

Accompanied by Secretary Comrade Edeki Igafe and others, Okpomor thanked Nwaeke for his visit and acknowledged the cordial relationship between journalists and the Delta State Assembly.

He commended Nwaeke for improving media visibility and nurturing strong ties between the Assembly and journalists, noting his dedication to promoting the Speaker’s legislative vision.

“This secretariat is transformative for us. We now have a dedicated space for meetings, workshops, and training sessions,” Okpomor remarked.

He also conveyed appreciation to the Speaker, inviting him to visit the complex and witness the support shown to journalists in Warri.

Several members of the chapel, including Comrades Michael Ikeogwu, Akpokona Omafuaire, and Matthew Omonigho, shared their personal experiences with Nwaeke, emphasizing his professionalism, humility, and compassion.

They commended his efforts in enhancing media coverage for the Delta State House of Assembly and facilitating strong relations with the Assembly leadership.

The journalists pledged their continued support and cooperation with the Delta State Government and the Speaker of the Assembly.

The visit, attended by the State Vice Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, Comrade Felix Ekwu, underscored the importance of media-government collaboration.

Comrade Nwaeke reiterated that responsible reporting and public education are vital to governance and civic trust.

The NUJ Warri Correspondents’ Chapel Secretariat is expected to serve as a hub for journalists and media practitioners in the area, promoting quality journalism and professional standards.
