Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has commended the organizers of the Delta State Social Media Summit for their commitment to harnessing the power of social media as a tool for sustainable development and job creation.
Delivering a goodwill message at the third edition of the summit held in Asaba, the Speaker described social media as a “dynamic engine for economic growth, social awareness, political engagement, and cultural promotion,” noting that its influence now extends far beyond personal interaction.
Represented by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Nkem Nwaeke, the Speaker said the summit’s theme, “Brand Delta, Grow Delta,” reflects the aspirations of the state to leverage digital platforms not only to tell its unique story but also to create opportunities and foster prosperity for its people.
“Delta State is blessed with abundant resources, rich cultural heritage, and an enterprising population, particularly our youth,” Guwor stated.
“But the true potential of these assets can only be unlocked when we adapt to modern tools and technologies. Social media offers us a powerful avenue to project a positive image of our state, showcasing investment opportunities, cultural strengths, innovations, and human capital to a global audience.”
The Speaker stressed that social media must go beyond branding to serve as a platform for empowerment through strategic engagement, skills acquisition, and innovation.
He urged young people to embrace opportunities in content creation, digital marketing, entrepreneurship, and influencer branding as pathways to economic diversification and job creation.
Reaffirming the legislature’s commitment, Guwor assured that the Delta State House of Assembly under his leadership will continue to advocate for policies that promote digital literacy, expand access to technology, and improve infrastructure, thereby creating an enabling environment for digital innovation.
He called on participants to maximize the summit’s discussions and networking opportunities, emphasizing that the future belongs to those who embrace change and harness technology for development.
“With social media, we can build a strong brand identity for Delta State, attract investment, promote tourism, and empower our people,” the Speaker said.
“Together, we can brand Delta with excellence, grow the state through innovation, and leave a legacy of sustainable development for generations to come.”
Guwor, who also serves as the National Treasurer of the Conference of Speakers of State Houses of Assembly in Nigeria, congratulated the organizers for sustaining the summit and expressed confidence that its outcomes will contribute significantly to the growth and progress of the state.
