This man right here did the unimaginable. Indeed good people still exist in this country.
Yeah, we still have some good folks among us. A friend of mine visited last week and while he was traveling back to Anambra, he boarded this guy’s keke (Tricycle) en route to where he would see a bus going to Onitsha from Asaba.
He was in a haste to meet up with something and so he forgot he kept this bag inside the keke when he came down to enter a bus heading to Onitsha.
By the time he remembered his bag, he was already inside a bus. So he called me and I was devastated about the news. He had to stop the bus and got down even though he had paid the driver.
Devastated and frustrated, he started looking for the Keke man that carried him, but all to no avail. He couldn’t see it anywhere. The number of Keke in Asaba is quite much. Anyone who has been here would testify to this.
Well, that’s by the way. So, he called my attention. I came out to the junction he boarded the Keke, so we both stood there under the scorching sun hoping to see the Keke guy, and hoping he returns it. For good three hours, we were out there looking for the bag or the Keke man, but he wasn’t forthcoming.
We got tired and went back home. So, he eventually didn’t embark on the journey that very day. The plan was for us to come out in the evening of that same day to see if the man had returned the bag or if there was any news about the missing bag.
Evening soon arrived and we went out again hoping to see the man or hoping to see anyone who have any clue about the man or the bag. We waited at the same junction and stood by waiting to see if a miracle would happen but nothing of such happened.
We went out around 5:00 PM and stayed till around 8:00 PM before returning disappointed and hurt. The content of the bag is really worth a huge sum of money and likewise, a phone was inside it. We went back, prayed, and kept believing that God touches the person’s heart to return it. It was a sad day.
Fast forward to the next day, we went out as early as possible and stood at that same junction, we kept looking at every single Keke that passed but we didn’t see anyone carrying the bag.
An hour later, he told me he was tired that he was leaving, and that I should inform those around there, should in case he returns the bag. I did the needful and went back feeling hurt. This whole incident happened last week.
So, since then, a part of me was already accepting the loss while another part of me remained optimistic.
Long story short, my friend called me this morning that he finally contacted the Keke man. Like I said earlier, one of his phones have been inside the bag and it was down, so we couldn’t reach the phone those time.
According to him, after saying his morning prayer, he decided to call the number to see if it would go through. Fortunately, this time it went through. The guy picked up and narrated how he noticed the bag inside his Keke and started searching for the owner but couldn’t find anyone who claimed the bag, so he went home with the bag, charged the phone, and eventually turned it on.
So, my friend spoke with the man this morning and he promised to return the bag which he found in his Keke. So my friend called and informed me where to meet with him to collect the bag. I had to call the guy and he told me where I would meet him in Asaba. It was the same junction my friend had boarded the Keke.
So I dressed up and went out to meet him. I was there before him and then he drove in with his friend who was sitting at the back. You needed to see how I embraced him and thanked him for being a good and kind-hearted man.
I was so elated. He narrated how he had waited for calls after charging the phone. He said a certain person called yesterday, but he didn’t hear what the person was saying and the person never called back.
I told him how it all happened and how we came out that same day looking for the phone but we didn’t see it. I thanked him and gave him some cash and collected his number which my friend asked of.
So, guys, my week started on a good note and I’m so happy, especially because of the content of that bag. It’s really worth a lot and I’m so happy that he also didn’t tamper with any single thing in it.
Everything was intact as my friend had arranged them in the bag. Indeed good people still exist for real good people still exist in this country.
For the record, he is an Hausa man and I am so proud of what he did.
This is not fiction.
This is a true-life story.
