Commercial activities were brought to a halt in some part of Asaba, the Delta State capital over the sit-at-home directive issued by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB),  on its members across the country.

Ogbogonogo, one of the busiest market in Asaba, waa on Monday May 16th 2022 paralysized at the early hours of the day as traders stay away from their shops in compliance with the proscribed indigenous people of Baifra, for residents to observed every Monday sit-at-home.

It was observed that most of the shops were not open for business, until 12noon when traders were seen milling round and observing the situation so as not to be caught in the web by hoodlums unexpectedly.

Some of them said they were apprehensive following the threat handed down by IPOB that the sit-at-home should extend to Asaba, the State capital.

Also, schools at the capital territory, including Okwe, Oko, Akwuebulu, Cable Point, Bonsaac, Oduke areas of Asaba were shutdown.

It was gathered that unknown gunmen were shooting sporadically at Bonsaac area while parents were falling on themselves running to pick their children from schools to avoid being cut in the web.

It was gathered that one person was killed at the process thereby creating apprehension in the State.

When Contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe said that the command has drafted personnel to all nook and cranny of State to provide security to the people.

He said that he was not aware of any gunshots but there was there was shooting of knockouts in some areas.

He advised the residents to go about there normal business and disregard the sit-at-home order by the proscribed IPOB, saying the police are in total control of the situation.

Meanwhile, the Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa-led administration, has warned that any group of person calling for sit-at-home, would be dealt with accordingly.

A statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Chief Patrick Ukah, warned that any group of persons under the guise of any organization that wants to disrupt the peace currently being enjoyed in Asaba and its neighbouring towns will be dealt with accordingly.

“Securities have been put on red alert and have been mandated to ensure that such threats by unscrupulous elements are promptly nipped in the bud”.

The government assured residents of government’s commitment to ensuring continued peace and security of lives and property, adding that they should go about their lawful business without fear.
