Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North in the National Assembly, has reaffirmed that the Sports University of Nigeria (SUN) in Idumuje-Ugboko was established to integrate world-class education with sports excellence, providing a transformative platform for young athletes and scholars.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday night, Senator Nwoko emphasized the institution’s mission, stating:
“SUN is more than just an institution—it is a game-changer for young athletes and scholars across the country. Seeing this vision come to life reaffirms my commitment to youth development, education, and the empowerment of future generations.”
Over the weekend, Senator Nwoko visited the university for an inspection tour, assessing its remarkable progress. He expressed confidence in SUN’s potential to shape future champions, both in sports and academics.
“I look forward to the immense impact it will have in shaping Nigeria’s future champions, both on and off the field,” he remarked.
Established by the Prince Ned Nwoko Foundation, the Sports University of Nigeria aims to train athletes, coaches, sports managers, and other professionals in the sports industry.
The institution provides specialized training for professional sportsmen and women while equipping them with additional qualifications to help them navigate life beyond sports and contribute to national development.
Beyond individual success, SUN is designed to position Nigeria as a global powerhouse in sports, producing elite athletes and professionals who will enhance the country’s reputation on the international stage.
Recognizing the need for expanded university access and entrepreneurial-driven education, Prince Ned Munir Nwoko sought and obtained approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to establish the institution.
With a unique blend of sports training and academic excellence, the Sports University of Nigeria is poised to become a premier institution for nurturing world-class athletes and fostering innovation in sports education.
