Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North in the National Assembly, has reaffirmed his commitment to improving the lives of Anioma people through impactful community projects.

As part of his life-changing initiatives, the Senator has launched an ambitious clean water project, providing solar-powered boreholes to communities struggling with water scarcity.

Two communities—Umunede in Ika North East and Idumuje-Ugboko in Aniocha North, have already benefited from the initiative, with their solar-powered water systems inaugurated in December 2024.

These projects have significantly eased the struggle for potable water, addressing a major concern in the region.

During an inspection visit to the projects, Dr. Michael Nwoko, Chief of Staff to Senator Nwoko, highlighted the positive impact of the boreholes.

“Water scarcity has been a long-standing issue in these communities, but with the installation of solar-powered boreholes, residents no longer have to endure the hardship of sourcing water from distant locations,” Dr. Nwoko explained.

In Idumuje-Ugboko, the terrain had made access to water particularly difficult for generations.

Residents had previously relied on expensive alternatives or endured long treks to fetch water. However, the new borehole, powered by renewable energy, ensures a sustainable and cost-effective solution.

“This borehole runs on solar power, eliminating the need for fuel or diesel, which can be a financial burden,” Dr. Nwoko added.

“Senator Nwoko remains committed to replicating this project across Delta North to ensure more communities benefit.”

A similar transformation has been witnessed in Umunede, where the borehole has been operational since December 2024.

According to Dr. Nwoko, residents who once struggled to access clean water now enjoy a steady and reliable supply.

“Whenever we visit, we see the joy on their faces. Water is a basic necessity, and Senator Nwoko’s commitment to humanitarian causes has made this a top priority for him,” he stated.

The solar-powered boreholes have been widely welcomed and appreciated by the local communities.

Residents expressed deep gratitude for the Senator’s intervention, emphasizing the relief it has brought to their daily lives.

Mrs. Dorathy Agalim, a resident of Idumuje-Ugboko, described the previous struggles the community faced.

“For years, we suffered due to a lack of water. We used to buy a gallon of water for ₦500, but now we get water for free.

Before this, we had to wake up as early as 4 a.m. to trek up a hill and fetch water multiple times. Senator Nwoko has saved us from this hardship. May God bless him,” she said with joy.

Similarly, Chief Amos Okonuwa Onyeagwu, the Akinuwa of Umunede Kingdom, praised the Senator for his timely intervention.

“Water scarcity has been a persistent issue here. In dry seasons, we had to travel as far as Mbiri to fetch water.

Thanks to Senator Nwoko, we no longer face this challenge. Water is life, and we are grateful. We will continue to pray for him and support his good works,” he stated.

Senator Ned Nwoko’s clean water project is just the beginning of a broader initiative to ensure every household in Delta North has access to potable water.

With the success of the boreholes in Umunede and Idumuje-Ugboko, the Senator has pledged to extend the initiative to more communities across the region.

His dedication to sustainable development and improving the welfare of his constituents reflects his commitment to practical leadership and impactful representation.
