In the evolving landscape of Delta State politics, it is crucial to acknowledge the significant contributions of Senator Ned Munir Nwoko to the electoral successes of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
As the political dynamics shift, particularly with the rise of the APC, it is essential to revisit the narrative surrounding Senator Nwoko’s vital role in the party’s achievements, notably in support of former Governor Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa and the sustained dominance in Anioma.
The turning point for Senator Nwoko came in 2019, when he faced a challenging political environment.
Understood to be the less favored candidate by the then-governor Dr. Okowa, he was approached with a lucrative offer from the APC, which included assurances of financial support and a potential ministerial position.
However, opting for the path of integrity, Senator Nwoko chose to remain with the PDP, recognizing the broader implications of his potential defection.
“I understood that my decision could significantly impact Anioma, particularly at the grassroots level,” Senator Nwoko stated.
“Losing the governorship would have been detrimental to our collective interest.”
Instead of abandoning the party amid tensions following the PDP primaries, which were perceived as unjust, Senator Nwoko took decisive action.
He redirected his energy and resources towards a campaign initiative titled *Operation Return Okowa (ORO)*.
This grassroots mobilization effort, funded largely by Senator Nwoko, aimed to ensure that Delta North retained the governorship, ultimately contributing to Dr. Okowa’s victory.
In 2023, Senator Nwoko’s commitment to the PDP and Anioma remained steadfast.
Following his election to the 10th Senate, he actively engaged in supporting the party’s governorship and House of Assembly elections.
His dedication was evident as he traveled throughout communities, motivated party structures, and connected with students, reaffirming his role as a leader committed to the people.
“It is disingenuous to portray Senator Nwoko as merely a beneficiary of PDP’s successes,” remarked Dr. Michael Nwoko, Chief of Staff to Senator Nwoko.
“His actions have consistently demonstrated that he prioritizes party unity and the collective welfare of Anioma over personal ambition.”
As Delta State navigates its political future, the wisdom of investing in Senator Nwoko becomes increasingly apparent.
His legacy is one of principled choice and selfless service; qualities that continue to foster resilience and unity within the PDP.
