The Delta State Government has reiterated its commitment to strengthening public safety and supporting security agencies through the newly established Delta State Security Trust Fund, launched by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori last week at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Asaba.

Speaking during a telephone interview with Wazobia FM, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon, described the fund as a strategic initiative designed to enhance operational efficiency, intelligence gathering, and logistics support for security agencies across the state.

“As a government, we are doing our best to ensure the safety of our people,” Ahon stated.

“The Security Trust Fund was created to assist security agencies in acquiring modern gadgets, improving training, and providing vehicles to check criminal activities and make Delta a more peaceful place for everyone.”

He explained that the Trust Fund was conceived as a public-private partnership mechanism aimed at generating sustainable resources for the implementation of the Governor’s crime prevention and safety strategies.

Ahon emphasized that the Oborevwori administration is committed to transparency and accountability in managing the fund.

“We can assure Deltans that every kobo contributed will be properly managed and used for the common good,” he said.

“A committee has already been set up to oversee the management of the fund, ensuring transparency, accountability, and measurable results.”

The governor’s spokesperson commended security agencies for their tireless efforts in curbing crime, particularly the notable decline in kidnapping incidents across the state in recent months.

“Our security agencies are doing very well, working closely with community and religious leaders,” Ahon noted.

“We’re also exploring the possibility of establishing local vigilante groups to complement conventional security outfits. But for now, our focus is to make the existing agencies more efficient through this fund.”

While acknowledging the progress made, Ahon stressed that security remains a collective responsibility, urging residents to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by sharing useful intelligence.

“Security is a joint effort. If you have information that can help, share it with us or the security agencies. Together, we can keep Delta safe,” he appealed.

Ahon further warned that the government would not tolerate criminal activities under any guise.

“Delta is open to all law-abiding citizens doing genuine business. But anyone involved in crime will either relocate or face the full weight of the law,” he warned.

On infrastructure, the CPS reaffirmed Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to inclusive development across all parts of Delta State.

He cited the recent flag-off of the reconstruction of the Warri–Sapele–Benin Road as part of efforts to improve transportation and stimulate economic growth.

“Last week, Governor Oborevwori flagged off the reconstruction of the portion of the Warri–Sapele Road between Effurun Roundabout and Mecca Bridge because it’s heavily used by Deltans and other Nigerians daily,” Ahon said.

“The Federal Government has also awarded the adjoining section from the Benin axis. It’s a 10-kilometre dual carriageway, five kilometres on each lane.”

He concluded by assuring that the Oborevwori administration will continue to deliver people-oriented projects guided by the MORE Agenda, ensuring that every part of the state benefits equitably from government interventions.

“All our infrastructural projects are based on the needs of the people,” he said. “Governor Oborevwori is determined to deliver development that touches lives and enhances security across Delta State.”
