Rotary club of Asaba, Metropolitan, District 9141, has commissioned a water scheme and a toilet project for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), the Oshimili south Secretariat and the community.
In her opening remarks, during the Commissioning of the Water Scheme and Hygiene Facility, President of the Club, Rotarian, Patricia Ojebor, disclosed that the projects were put together through self help from members of the Club.
She disclosed that the redesigned and remodeled facility gulped about N1.6 million, just as she harped on the need for NYSC and the Oshimili south local government to maintain the wash facility.
She stressed that it is to provide clean water for the Corps members while the sanitation is to end open defecation popularly called “short put”.
The immediate past president, Rotarian Austin Ekpewu, who gave the run down of how they came about the project, disclosed that some Corps members visited them at the venue of their fellowship where they were briefed of the need for a water supply and toilet facility.
He noted that a delegation stormed Oshimili south Secretariat for on the spot assessment where they were given approval after meeting with the Council chairman, Comrade Uche Osadebe, revealing that the project only took Rotary Club two months to accomplish.
Also, District Governor Virgina Major who was represented by the District Governor-elect, Rotarian Andy Uwejeyan, corroborated the call by the President for NYSC and the host local government Council to protect and maintain the facility.
In her response, the State Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs. Olutayo Samuel, who could not hide her feelings, praised Rotary Club for showing commitment to their core areas of interest.
“Despite the Covid-19, Rotary still put this in their minds. It shows the passion that Rotary Club have in meeting the needs of the people. Carrying out this project shows their commitment to the tenants of the Club. It is very commendable”.
She sized the medium to enlighten the audience on the NYSC Scheme, even as she commended the Club for the project.
“NYSC I a household programme. I see it as giving back to a scheme that you once belongs to. Thank you for making this laudable programme available to your children. I want to assure you by the grace of God, this Projects will be kept”.
End of the event was the commissioning of the Water Scheme, Sanitation and Hygiene Facility by the District Governor-elect, Rotarian Andy Uwejeyan, in Company of other Rotarians and the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs. Olutayo Samuel.
