The earlier proposed Obiaruku Community Development Association PG election slated to hold Sunday August 15th 2021, at the Obiaruku Community Town hall, Ukwuani local government area of Delta State ended in deadlock.
The election which delegates who are registered members of the association from the entire Obiaruku community were supposed to cast their votes was slated to commence at 2:00pm was stalled due to a petition against on of the contestants.
Trouble started when the Caretaker and Electoral Committee headed by Hon. Pedro Oshilim intimated participants that the election could no longer hold due to the intervention of the Department of State Security (DSS), over a petition before them according to a source.
After the arrival of the contestants and supposed delegates, the chairman of the Caretaker/Electoral Committee, Hon. Oshilim, announced the postponement of the election till 22nd of August 2021.
The notification and information by the Committee Chairman elicited arguments from different persons, as some supported and insisted that it’s necessary that the DSS comes around and do the needful.
But others kicked against it saying the presence of DSS was not necessary, as they cited the Youth election recently conducted, drowning at the DSS inability to make available the report of the election.
When the Caretaker/Electoral Committee chairman, Hon. Pedro Oshilim was quizzed by this reporter to get information about the reason for the postponement, he said “i can’t be giving people information one after the other for the reason for the postponement, if you want to know, you can ask people in the meeting to tell you”.
A source privy to the reason for the postponement who said he doesn’t want his name to be mentioned, said “from what I gathered, it seems there is a petition to the DSS against one of the contestant which I can’t ascertain for now because is still in the realm of rumour, until the DSS comes, we can’t say for sure”.
The aspirants for the Obiaruku Community Development Association President General include; Barr. Eze Amudo Ékó, Hon. Okpor Murray and Comrade Agagaraga Alandee.
