…highlights achievements

The Rector of Delta State Polytechnic Ogwashi- Uku, Prof Emmanuel Achuenu, has disclosed that he has revived the economic and academic standards of the institution since he assumed office.

The rector, who stated this on Sunday December 8, 2024, during the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council’s Journalists Hangout in the state, said another feat the institution achieved was the accreditation of all the programmes in the tertiary institution.

According to him, “stating the academic programmes and having them accredited is a very major achievement and the development of internal roads”.

He disclosed that the fashion design that has gone viral across the world is just one out of the very many the school has, “the fashion you mentioned that is the only one out of the many in our school and you can see a lot of products.

“Fashion, is very wonderful in the school and even art and design, the other side of art and design. Our products are very good and unique”.

He revealed that in the year ahead, the institution would take proper exhibition, explore more opportunities for more products to be treated.

“So that it will become and incident that will make people to get our works to be incidented so that at least people will know them and begin to order them to be recognized internationally.

“I just told you about smart campus, honestly speaking with good funding, the smart campus will even override a lot of things.

“We exhibited fuelless generator in 2023, in Abuja. Every scientific product requires more evaluation because you have to evaluate every product for adequacy and usability just as I told you about our solar generator.

“Our solar generator is even much more efficient because that one, the other one one of my major problems use to have mechanical problem because of its mechanical content.

“The solar generator is almost like something that you are not going to do much but when it comes, it is almost seamless”.

On intakes into polytechnics in the state due to several public and private universities, he said: “On polytechnic having low intakes, I am telling you that Delta state Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, subscription is much more than the available spaces that we have.

“In our Mass Communication department, the programmes there, I find it difficult to admit all the people. I’m fact, I am not too sure if I can admit up to ten per cent of the applicants.

“That is why we are now struggling to key into the unbundling of the programmes and also expand the carrying capacity”, disclosing further that the programme has over subscription.

“We have people who are willing to come to Delta state Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, I don’t know whether it is just the name or is what we are doing there but as others are crying of low students, we are crying of lack of space to admit our students “, Prof. Achuenu, stressed.
