Oshimili South Chairman Marks One Year In Office With Bold Development Strides Across Key Sectors

The Executive Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government Area, Hon. (High Chief) Obi Kelvin Ezenyili (Ph.D), has marked his administration’s first 365 days in office with a strong reaffirmation of service delivery, unveiling an impressive scorecard of achievements across infrastructure, healthcare, youth empowerment, and environmental management.

Addressing journalists and stakeholders during a press briefing held in Asaba, on Wednesday July 6, 2025, Hon. Ezenyili described the event as a demonstration of transparent leadership and a renewed commitment to the development of Oshimili South.

He emphasized that many projects initiated during his first tenure have now been completed and commissioned, while new transformative initiatives have been launched across the 11 wards of the Local Government.

Massive Infrastructure Rollout

In a bid to modernize physical structures within the council and align with the standards of a capital territory, the Chairman highlighted several completed and ongoing infrastructure projects, including:

Commissioning of the Oko Event Centre, Oko

Completion of open stalls in the Cable Point Modern Foodstuff Market, Asaba

Delivery of the Oshimili South Government Plaza (Burnt Old Ogbegonogo Market), Asaba

60% completion of a new administrative secretariat office complex

Provision of a 150KVA generator for the Secretariat

Installation of a 500KVA transformer for residents of Okuelegu Street, Asaba

Acquisition of 3 acres of land for the development of a cemetery via public-private partnership

Groundbreaking of an ultra-modern event centre at the Council Old Arcade Ground, Asaba.

Commitment to Health and Sanitation

Hon. Ezenyili reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to quality healthcare, disclosing that over ₦10 million has been invested in the renovation and equipping of Primary Health Care Centres across the Local Government.

This effort also includes disease prevention, vaccination drives, and sensitization campaigns targeting Lassa fever, cholera, and neglected tropical diseases.

On environmental sanitation, the Chairman reported consistent monthly sanitation exercises, strategic waste management efforts, and extensive public awareness campaigns, all aimed at transforming Asaba into a clean, model city.

Empowering Youth Through Innovation and Funding

In a bold step towards youth inclusion and empowerment, the Ezenyili administration launched a ₦50 million financial empowerment program that benefited 500 young people, each receiving ₦100,000 to grow micro-enterprises and drive household-level economic growth.

Further advancing youth development, the Council partnered with Design Africa and tech expert Amb. Jerry Fuludu Ogheneakaro to roll out a first-of-its-kind digital skills acquisition program. The initiative is training 23 youths in the first phase across all wards in the following high-demand areas:
