The burial committee of late Omu Okpanam, Omu Anioma, Nneoha, Her Royal Majesty (HRM), Obi Martha Dunkwu, has announced date for the final burial ceremony.
The burial dates were announced in a statement on Monday 25th March 2024, on behalf of her son and family of the late royal mother.
The statement was signed by Hon. Barr. Bridget Anyafulu, member representing Oshimili South State Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly (DTHA), Dr. Afamefuna Dunkwu-Okafor, Chairman, Burial Committee, Chief Mourner/Co-Chairman, Burial Committee and made available to journalists in Asaba, the State capital.
Announcing the official burial dates, the Omu Anioma Burial Planning Committee said the burial ceremony, comes up 24th – 27th April, 2024.
According to the release, “the burial committee of HRM, Obi Martha Dunkwu, wishes to inform the public that the celebration of the passage of Omu Anioma comes up from 24th – 27th April, 2024.
“The burial will involve both traditional burial rites and Night of Tributes/Farewell.
“While the traditional rites will take place from 24th-25th April, 2024 at the Dunkwu Family Compound, Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area, Delta State; the Night of Tributes and Memorial Farewell is from 26th-27th April, 2024 at Omu Palace, Okpanam.
“More details on the specific time for the traditional burial rites and Night of Tributes/Memorial
Farewell will be communicated in due course.
“It is emphasized that the Omu Anioma represented purity, and so, the dress code for the events
will be all white including the traditional akwa-ocha of Anioma people.
“The committee wishes all invited guests and dignitaries a safe journey to and from Okpanam,
venue of the celebration of the passage of Omu Anioma, HRM Obi Martha Dunkwu”, it added.
It would be recall that Omu Anioma, mother to all and mother without borders, (Nneoha), reportedly died in the early hours of Friday February 17th 2024.
