Sons and daughters of Oghara Kingdom, both at home and in the diaspora, have been urged to unite and support the Oghara Elite Forum (OEF) in advancing the socio-economic and cultural development of the community.
This appeal was made by Dr. Jacob E. Ighere, President-General of OEF, during the inauguration ceremony of the Forum’s new executive team, which will serve for the next three years. He expressed his commitment to achieving milestone developments and prayed for divine guidance in fulfilling the Forum’s mandate.
Dr. Ighere emphasized that the OEF, founded 24 years ago, is dedicated to driving socio-economic growth, educational opportunities, peaceful coexistence, political engagement, and fairness for the people of Oghara and beyond. He called on key stakeholders, political leaders, and all Oghara indigenes to support the new administration in achieving its vision.
A Vision for Progress and Unity
Expressing his hopes for his tenure, Dr. Ighere outlined key goals, including:
Promoting peace among youths
Providing scholarships and educational/job opportunities
Strengthening unity between the two major sections of Oghara
“I earnestly seek the support of Oghara sons and daughters worldwide to help us fulfill our selfless mandate for the good of our people,” he stated.
He also made a passionate appeal to HRM Noble Eshemitan, Orefe III, Ovie of Oghara Kingdom, and the Council of Chiefs to grant OEF land for a befitting secretariat, which will serve as a hub for community development initiatives.
Stakeholders Pledge Support
Delivering his keynote address, London-based legal icon Olorogun Emmanuel Okpako Ganiga, who chaired the event, urged the new executive to collaborate with stakeholders to uplift Oghara to greater heights. Represented by Dr. Ben Rollands Igbakpa, former House of Representatives Member (Ethiope Federal Constituency), Ganiga assured the Forum of his support whenever needed.
Dr. Igbakpa further challenged the new leadership to restore Oghara’s lost political influence, stating: “There was a time when Oghara was at the top politically, but we have lost that position. Genuine political reconciliation is necessary for Oghara’s progress, and the Forum must take action.”
Tackling Youth Challenges
Immediate past President-General of OEF, Chief Joseph Ogunje, advised the new leadership to focus on addressing school dropouts and youth involvement in drug abuse. He expressed confidence in Dr. Ighere’s ability to drive meaningful change, given his academic background and leadership skills.
Royal Endorsement
Speaking on behalf of HRM Noble Eshemitan, Orefe III, Ovie of Oghara Kingdom, Dr. Frank Emiko, Secretary to the Palace, congratulated the new executive and urged them to uphold and promote the culture and traditions of Oghara Kingdom.
With a renewed sense of purpose and collective support, the Oghara Elite Forum is poised to drive impactful change, fostering unity and development in the Kingdom.
