Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, the founder of the You Matter Charity Foundation and wife of the Governor of Delta State, has called for strong support in the fight against gender-based violence in the state.
She committed her support to the protection of every woman and girl in the State when Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) visited her on Thursday, November 30, 2023, during a campaign awareness for the international 16-day activism on gender-based issues at the Government House in Asaba.
During the visit, Deaconess Oborevwori implored all stakeholders to lend their voice and support to victims of assault, mistreatment, and abuse of all kinds, and emphasized that justice for one is justice for all.
She also stated that violence against women and girls would no longer be tolerated in the state.
The CSOs, led by the State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Community and Social Development, Hon. Pat Ajudua, decorated the governor’s wife and presented her with a manual on the National Gender Policy.
Some of the stakeholders at the rally, described gender-based violence as a pandemic that should be given serious attention, as many victims are suffering in silence.
The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, which has the theme, “Invest to Prevent Violence against Women and Girls,” is an annual international campaign that started on November 25 and will continue until December 10.
