The Orodje of Okpe Kingdom and Chairman Delta State Traditional Rulers Council, HRM Maj-Gen Felix Mujakperuo, Orhue I, Wednesday, said Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E Agenda was manifesting across the state.
The monarch spoke during a visit of the Commissioner for Works (Rural and Riverine Roads), Mr Charles Aniagwu at his Palace in Orerokpe, Okpe Local Government Area of the state.
At the inspection of the ongoing construction of Esezi Road dualisation project at Orerokpe, the Monarch said the Oborevwori administration has delivered several landmark projects across the state in the last one year.
“The Governor’s MORE Agenda is manifesting and we are not just saying it, it is manifesting physically across the state.
“Road construction costs a lot of money and it is important to note that with all these roads the governor is doing, he has not borrowed a dime.
“He is using the resources of the state to do all these not only in my kingdom but across the state. Bringing Julius Berger to work in Delta is another 100 percent mark for the Governor and he is not borrowing money.
“Governor Oborevwori knows the needs of the people and we appreciate him and we will continue to pray for him because what he has for this state he cannot accomplish it within four years. So we will continue to pray for him so that he will do eight years to enable him accomplish his plans for the state.”
On disturbance of contractors on project sites, the revered monarch said there is a policy in his kingdom against such nefarious acts, adding, “I have a policy in my kingdom that you cannot disturb government projects because if you do that development will not come to the community.
“Aside that, there is a law banning ‘Deve’ in Delta State and before I became the traditional ruler when they were building a road to my community people wanted to disturb the contractor and I used soldiers to arrest them to make sure they don’t disturb the contractor.
“I have always told my people that if you want to supply anything you must do so at the market rate agreed with the contractor and not your own rate.
“If you want to do a job, they give you at the commercial rate and if you are to supply cement or anything you do so at the market price that’s the only way we can assist government to develop our kingdom.
“I am happy with this contractor who constructed the Adagbrasa/Ohorhe road and he did a good job there and because of the good job they did that they have given them this one and I am optimistic that they will deliver at the specified time of the contract.”
Responding, Aniagwu commended the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom for his support to the present and previous administrations in the state.
On the issues raised, Aniagwu said Governor Oborevwori has directed them to visit all projects site to ensure that projects are being executed in line with the approved Bill of Quantities.
On accommodation of local interests in road construction, Aniagwu said it was not out of place as long as the locals have the capacity to deliver timely on set targets.
“The contractor has impressed us with speed and quality even as we commend youths of this area for cooperating with the contractor to do a good job.
“Oborevwori has promised more and I can assure you that MORE will continue to permeate the atmosphere in Delta.”
