Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of a Delta Broadcasting Service (DBS), Asaba presenter, Miss Vivian Nkechika, describing her passing as a painful loss to the journalism profession and the state at large.
Miss Nkechika, an indigene of Ekwuoma in Ika North East Local Government Area, was an Assistant Manager in the Programmes Department of DBS Asaba.
She reportedly died on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, following complications arising from a domestic gas explosion.
In a condolence message issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Governor Oborevwori extended heartfelt sympathies to the family of the deceased, the management and staff of DBS Asaba, media practitioners across Delta State, and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council.
The Governor described the late broadcaster as a dedicated and highly professional journalist whose career was distinguished by diligence, ethical practice, and a strong sense of responsibility.
He noted that her passion for public enlightenment, factual reporting, and responsible journalism earned her the respect of colleagues and admiration within the media industry.
Governor Oborevwori said, “This is a moment of profound sadness. Delta State has lost a vibrant and principled media professional whose contributions significantly advanced public information and awareness.
“Her sudden passing is a great loss to her family, the media fraternity, and all who cherish credible and responsible journalism.”
The Governor prayed for God’s comfort and strength for her family, friends, and colleagues to bear the painful loss, while also praying for the peaceful repose of her soul.
“Our hearts are with all who mourn her passing. May God grant her eternal rest and comfort everyone she has left behind,” he added.
