Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has expressed profound sadness over the death of Chief Dan Okenyi, a respected former Clerk of the Delta State House of Assembly and one-time Commissioner for Lands, Surveys, and Urban Development.
In a condolence message released in Asaba by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Governor Oborevwori described the late Okenyi as a patriotic and committed public servant who rendered selfless and dedicated service to Delta State with distinction and integrity.
A native of Ukunzu in Aniocha North Local Government Area, Chief Okenyi was a towering figure in the state’s civil service.
He diligently rose through the ranks to become Clerk of the House of Assembly before being appointed Commissioner under the administration of former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
During his tenure, he served in the Ministry of Lands, Surveys, and Urban Development, and was later redeployed to the Ministry of Arts, Culture, and Tourism, where he continued to demonstrate exceptional administrative acumen and commitment to public service.
Outside of government, Chief Okenyi was a key player in the socio-cultural affairs of Anioma land, serving as Secretary of the Anioma Congress. In that capacity, he championed the cause of unity and development across the Anioma nation.
Governor Oborevwori paid tribute to Okenyi’s impactful contributions to both the legislative and executive arms of government, as well as his community, noting that his passing is a painful loss not only to his immediate family and Aniocha North, but to Delta State at large.
“The news of Chief Dan Okenyi’s death came as a rude shock,” the Governor said. “He was an astute administrator, a true gentleman, and a loyal Deltan whose legacy of service to our state and the Anioma people will be fondly remembered.”
Governor Oborevwori extended his condolences to the Okenyi family, the people of Aniocha North, and the Anioma Congress. He prayed for the peaceful repose of Chief Okenyi’s soul and for strength and comfort for all who mourn his passing.
