Team Nasarawa’s medal haul at the ongoing 9th National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State, received a boost on Saturday, August 30, 2025, as Chineye Agbo clinched Bronze in Karate, marking the state’s third medal in the event.
Agbo defeated her opponent from the FCT, Faiza Gimba, with an emphatic 4–0 victory in the Bronze medal contest.
Her journey to the podium included an 8–0 win over Blessing Moses of Niger State, a 3–7 loss to eventual Gold medalist Chidinma Nwangwu of Anambra, and a 4–0 triumph over Gift Emezue of Abia before sealing the medal against Gimba.
Her success follows earlier Bronze medal wins by Magdaline Inji (-47kg Girls) and Alexander Otuma (-50kg Boys) on the opening day of the Karate competition, held at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.
Reacting after her fight, Agbo expressed mixed feelings about the outcome.
“I’m not happy with a Bronze; my target was the Gold. However, I thank God for this opportunity, and I also want to appreciate the Nasarawa State Government and my coaches for their support,” she said.
With Agbo’s achievement, Team Nasarawa Karate now boasts three Bronze medals at the Games, underlining the team’s resilience and growing presence in the competition.
