NUJ Wants Aniagwu Retained As Information Commissioner

Barely one month to the expiration of Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa’s tenure, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), State Information Chapel has urged the Governor-Elect, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori to retain the current Commissioner of Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, in the next administration of ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), in the State.

The State Information Chapel led by Comrade Kenneth Obieh, that Aniagwu, had carved a niche and justified the confidence reposed in him in various offices he had occupied and has been demonstrating this since his appointment as Chief Press Secretary in the first tenure of Okowa and Commissioner of Information till date.

At the monthly Congress of the Chapel, held on Wednesday April 26th 2023, at the Ministry of Information Conference Hall, Prof. Chike Edozien Secretariat Complex, Asaba, the Chapel recalled that the Commissioner worked to raise the bar in the ministry.

The Chapel noted that his credible performance as an appointee of government and at party level was sufficient enough to earn him reappointment in the next cabinet.

Inna Communique’ issues at the end of the Congress, the State Information Chapel Congress “commended Mr Charles Aniagwu for his unprecedented efforts that led to the creation of two additional departments in the Delta State Ministry of Information which would serve as a legacy that would continue to resonate in the minds of Information Officers in Delta State.

“Congress commended Mr Aniagwu for his contemporary initiatives and support towards the development of the chapel and Ministry of Information at large.

“Congress commended the commissioner for Introducing different welfare schemes to encourage staff of the ministry so as to ensure maximum performance, such welfare packages included stipends for the Delta State News Bulletin Editors, Support for bereaved staff and provision of imprest to augment staff transportation”.

FULL TEXT OF THE COMMUNIQUE

COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF THE CONGRESS OF THE NIGERIA UNION OF JOURNALISTS, STATE INFORMATION CHAPEL, DELTA STATE HELD ON WEDNESDAY APRIL 26, 2023 AT THE MINISTRY OF INFORMATION CONFERENCE HALL, PROFESSOR CHIKE EDOZIEN SECRETARIAT COMPLEX, ASABA.

The April 2023 Congress of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, State Information Chapel presided over by Comrade Kenneth Obieh, deliberated on the achievements and successes of the Chapel under the watch of Hon.Charles Ehiedu Aniagwu, the Delta State Commissioner for Information, and amongst other issues.

The following Resolutions were made:

1.Congress Commended Mr Charles Aniagwu for his unprecedented efforts that led to the creation of two(2) additional departments in the Delta State Ministry of Information which would serve as a legacy that would continue to resonate in the minds of Information Officers in Delta State.

2. Congress commended Mr Aniagwu for his contemporary initiatives and support towards the development of the chapel and Ministry of Information at large.

3. Congress commended the commissioner for Introducing different welfare schemes to encourage staff of the ministry so as to ensure maximum performance, such welfare packages included stipends for the Delta State News Bulletin Editors, Support for bereaved staff and provision of imprest to augment staff transportation.

4. Congress also appreciated the Hon. Commissioner for facilitating the training of over 60 Information Officers in Lagos and Abuja to further equip them towards excellent job performances.

5.Congress agreed that the commissioner had done well to the admiration of the Okowa led Administration and prayed that the incoming Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori would consider the re-appointment of Mr. Charles Aniagwu as Commissioner for Information during his tenure.

6. Congress further appreciated other relevant stakeholders, persons like the Head of Service, Mr. Reginald Bayoko mni, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalist,Delta State Chapter, Comrade Michael Ikeogwu amongst others who fully worked and supported the creation of the new Departments in the Ministry.

7.Congress urged members of the chapel who are yet to have obtained the minimum HND/BSC qualification in Mass Communication or other related fields of study to do so as a matter of urgency as this would enable them to enjoy full membership status of the Chapel.

8.Congress also encouraged members to give maximum cooperation to the NUJ State Council in lieu of the new compendium coming up soon.

9. Lastly, Congress agreed that henceforth, official letters of both congratulatory and condolence messages would be issued to celebrants and bereaved members alike on behalf of the Chapel.
