NUJ Delta State Information Chapel Set To Host Press Week

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Information Chapel, is poised to host its highly anticipated Press Week, themed “The Role of Information Officers as Pacesetters in the Actualization of the M.O.R.E. Agenda.”

According to a statement from the Chapel, the two-day event will take place on Wednesday, January 15, and Thursday, January 16, 2025, in Asaba. The program will be chaired by Dr. Festus Okubor, Chief Strategist to the Governor of Delta State, with Hon. Bridget Anyafulu, a member representing Oshimili South in the Delta State House of Assembly, serving as the guest speaker.

Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, Commissioner for Special Duties (Government House), will be the special guest of honor, while Dr. Andrew Akanigha, a retired Permanent Secretary, is set to be the Father of the Day.

The Press Week will feature an exciting lineup of events, including a road walk, novelty match, medical checks, indoor games, and a roundtable discussion. Distinguished panelists for the roundtable include Mr. Charles Aniagwu, Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information; Prof. Majority Oji, Dean, Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, Delta State University, Abraka; and Comrade Norbert Chiazor, a former Chairman of the NUJ Delta State Council.

Other notable guests expected to grace the event include Mr. Sonny Ekedayen, Commissioner for Economic Planning; Mr. Reginald Bayoko, Head of Service, Delta State; Lady Dr. Patience Ogbewe, a World Bank expert; seasoned journalist Mr. Asiwaju Sola Adebayo; Chief Festus Ahon, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor; and Comrade Michael Ikeogwu, immediate past Chairman of NUJ Delta State Council, among others.

The event will be hosted by Comrade Kenneth Obieh, Chairman of the Information Chapel, with Comrade Churchill Oyowe, Chairman of the NUJ Delta State Council, as the chief host.

Key activities for the Press Week include a road walk starting at 8:00 a.m. on January 15, from the Prof. Chike Edozien Secretariat to Inter Bau Roundabout and back to the Hall of Celebration on Okpanam Road. A novelty match between the Information Chapel officers and DBS Asaba will follow at 4:00 p.m. at the NTA Asaba sports ground.

On January 16, the program will resume with medical checks and indoor games at 8:00 a.m. at the Hall of Celebration, followed by the main event—a roundtable discussion featuring the guest speaker and panelists—at 11:00 a.m.

The Press Week aims to celebrate the contributions of information officers while fostering professional growth, networking, and knowledge sharing among participants.
