NUJ Delta Council Begins 2025 Press Week With Thanksgiving Service

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, on Sunday formally launched its 2025 Press Week with a thanksgiving Mass at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church, Asaba.

Delivering the homily, the officiating priest, Rev. Fr. Charles, drew his message from Luke 21:5–19, reminding Christians not to be swayed by sensational predictions about the end times.

He cautioned against the rising trend of speculative visions and prophecies circulating on social media and in certain religious circles.

Rev. Fr. Charles urged the faithful to focus on righteous living, fairness, and genuine care for others rather than being preoccupied with apocalyptic theories.

He emphasised that a meaningful life is rooted in good conduct, integrity, and responsibility.

He further highlighted the importance of hard work, stressing that Christians must earn their livelihood through diligence and not substitute action with excessive reliance on prayer alone.

Speaking with journalists after the service, the State NUJ Chairman, Comrade Churchill Oyovwe, alongside the Chairman of the 2025 Press Week Planning Committee, Comrade Pere Botu, said the thanksgiving ceremony was held to appreciate God and to seek His guidance for a successful Press Week.

They encouraged members of the union to fully participate in the week-long activities lined up for the 2025 celebration.

The service also featured a special thanksgiving procession led by Comrade Oyovwe on behalf of the NUJ Delta State Council.
