As the 22nd National Sports Festival (NSF) “Gateway Games” in Ogun State draws near, Team Delta is once again proving why they are the team to beat.

The reigning champions are fired up and ready to defend their dominance on the national stage.

According to a statement by Franka Okonma, Director of Public Relations, Delta State Sports Commission, Team Delta secured qualification in 12 out of 16 sports at the recently concluded South-South zonal elimination in Benin City, Edo State.

Delta’s Road to Qualification

Against stiff competition, Team Delta clinched qualifying spots in both male and female categories across multiple disciplines, including:

Football (Male & Female)

Handball (Male & Female)

Basketball (Male & Female)

Volleyball (Male)

Abula (Female & Mixed Doubles)

Hockey (Male & Female)

Cricket (Male)

Eyes on the Prize

Reacting to the team’s impressive qualification, Chairman, Delta State Sports Commission, Mr. Onoriode Oborevwori, expressed immense pride in their performance.

He described their success as a source of pride for the state and a strong statement ahead of the Gateway Games.

However, he also cautioned against complacency, emphasizing the need for early camping and intensive preparation to ensure that Delta remains the No. 1 force in Nigerian sports.
