The Nigeria Maritime University (NMU), Okerenkoko, has announced the appointment of Dr. Paul Bebenimibo as the institution’s new Registrar, alongside two other key appointments to strengthen its administrative structure.
The decisions were finalized during the university’s 21st Governing Council meeting, held on April 15, 2025, in Warri, Delta State.
Joining Dr. Bebenimibo in the new leadership lineup are Abduldayan Fatimah Jibril, who assumes the role of University Librarian, and Gbe Tamaraudebaemi Justin, appointed as Bursar.
Prior to his appointment, Dr. Bebenimibo served as the Head of the Department of Broadcasting, Journalism and Media Studies at Delta State University, Abraka.
He is a seasoned academic administrator with a distinguished record in university governance and public service.
Notably, he once served as Commissioner representing the Ijaw Ethnic Nationality at the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC).
His emergence as Registrar followed a competitive selection process conducted by an eight-member interview panel constituted by the University.
His reputation for integrity, commitment to institutional excellence, and academic competence was instrumental in his appointment.
In a statement released by the Chairman and Pro-Chancellor of the Governing Council, Abdullahi Bardi, the appointments were said to have followed due process in line with the university’s statutory guidelines.
Bardi expressed confidence in the appointees’ capacity to contribute meaningfully to the university’s growth and strategic direction.
“These appointments reflect our commitment to building a strong and visionary leadership team capable of driving the university’s mission and expanding its impact in maritime education and research,” Bardi stated.
