BREAKING NEWS: Schools In Delta Resume September 1

The Delta State Government has approved and released the 2025/2026 academic calendar for all public and private primary and secondary schools across the state.

In a statement signed by the Functioning Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mrs. Patricia Iniovosa-Okakwu, on behalf of the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu, and the Commissioner for Primary Education, Dr. Kingsley Ashibogwu, school heads and staff are directed to resume on Monday, September 1, 2025.

Boarding students are expected back in school on Sunday, September 7, while classes will officially commence on Monday, September 8, 2025.

The six-week pre-midterm teaching will run from September 8 to October 17, 2025, followed by a midterm break and seven weeks of post-midterm activities scheduled between October 27 and December 12, 2025.

First term examinations will be held from December 8–12, 2025, with the School Term Achievement Review (STAR) Day and the mandatory School-Based Management Committee (SBMC) meeting slated for Friday, December 12, 2025.

Schools will then proceed on first-term holidays from December 15, 2025, to January 2, 2026.

For the second term, schools will resume on Monday, January 5, 2026.

The pre-midterm teaching will span January 5 to February 13, with the midterm break scheduled for February 16–20. Post-midterm teaching will run from February 23 to April 2, 2026, while second-term examinations will be held from March 27 to April 2.

The STAR Day and SBMC meeting are set for Thursday, April 2, after which schools will go on holiday from April 6 to April 17, 2026.

The third term begins with boarders resuming on Sunday, April 19, while classes commence on Monday, April 20. Pre-midterm activities will run until May 29, and the midterm break will hold from June 1–5.

Post-midterm teaching is scheduled for June 8–24, while third-term examinations will take place between June 20 and July 24.

STAR Day and SBMC meetings will also hold on July 24, with the long vacation starting on Monday, July 27 and ending on Monday, September 14, 2026.

The statement also announced that the Cognitive/Placement Examination will be conducted on Saturday, May 23, 2026, while the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) will run from June 1–5, 2026.

The government urged all public and private schools to ensure strict compliance with the approved 2025/2026 academic calendar.
