The imprints of the ministry of secondary education in Delta State under the watch of Mrs. Rose Ezewu in the reforms she has introduced to the ministry, has attracted commendations from the National Association of Delta State Students (NADESTU).
The President of NADESTU, Comrade Whiska Monday conveyed the commendations during a courtesy visit to the office of the Honourable Commissioner for secondary education, in Asaba, the State capital.
This, is in line with Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori’s investments in teachers training and professional development as teachers are the backbone of any educational system.
The State government has expressed committed to providing them with the support and resources they need to deliver high-quality instruction.
The government has also promised to work with educational institutions to provide training and development opportunities for teachers, with a focus on improving their pedagogical skills, subject matter expertise, and use of technology in the classroom.
Comrade Monday noted that the body was in the ministry to congratulate the commissioner on her reappointment and to equally applaud her for the reforms she had brought into education sector since assumption of office in September 2023.
Comrade Monday emphasized that the nucleus of the policies was the capacity building programme organized for principals and selected teachers in the 498 secondary schools in the state.
According to the group’s leader, the training no doubt, broadened the principals’ administrative skills and built in the teachers, modern teaching techniques that were required in this time for effective teaching and learning.
He stated that the capacity building was commendable as he reiterated that the knowledge the participants acquired would be transmitted to the students to improve on their learning ability.
Comrade Monday further commended the commissioner, Mrs Ezewu for the school resumption monitoring that her office embarked upon.
While underscoring the importance of the initiative, he emphasized that it would help to curtail teachers absenteeism which he noted, had become a habitual culture amongst school administrators.
NADESTU President appealed to the commissioner to carry NADESTU leadership along in the course of implementing education policies that would have positive impact on secondary school students in the state. He assured her of the readiness of the body to cooperate with her office.
Mrs Rose Ezewu, while responding, thanked the leaders of NADESTU for being abreast with the activities of the ministry which according to the commissioner, were geared towards making principals and their teachers deliver efficiently as required of them in their service rules.
She solicited for the support of the student union in reorienting the minds of secondary school students in the state toward education and the society.
The commissioner assured them of the utmost cooperation of her office.
