The 2024 AGM and scientific conference of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Asaba zone held in the State capital, with the theme, Reestablishing professional values and the esteem back to medical practice in Nigeria.
The NMA Chairman Asaba zone. Dr. Christopher Otene, at the opening ceremony, harped on the need for medical practitioners to uphold the ethics of the profession and imbibe modern technology to enable them function in line with global best practices.
Dr. Otene lamented the spate of trend of medical brain drain and called on government to work on the security and remuneration for workers, especially medical professionals.
He said he was impressed with the turnout of members for the programme .
The chairman, Delta State Board if Internal Revenue, Honourable Solomon Ighrakpata, represented by Chief Frank Nwugo, noted that the NMA Asaba has continued to conduct themselves in a peaceful and orderly manner and appealed to the NMA as the parent body of the Association to look into the issue of brain drain among medical personnel.
The Director General and Chief Executive Officer, Delta State Contributory Health Commission, Dr. Isaac Akpoveta, who gave a lecture, said Delta State had registered over 1.8 vulnerable persons into the health insurance scheme and was catering to those in the hard to reach and riverine areas.
He expressed gratitude to Governor Oborevwori for his support to the programme which has resulted in the successes recorded so far.
The event featured lectures by the Permanent Secretary, State Ministry of Environment, Dr. Minni Oseji, and a representative of the Nordica fertility Centre.
