The leadership tussle that rocked Oviri-Olomu Community, Ughelli south local government area of Delta State, has been buried with a government of unity set up in the locality.
The resolution of the crises came after one of the two contenders to the office of the President-General (PG) of the community, Mr. Sunday Okreghe agreed to step down for Chief John Ewenede JP, to form a unity government for peace to finally reign in the community.
Addressing Chief Ewenede JP and Mr. Okreghe and their supporters at community town hall, the Spokesperson of the community, Chief Friday Akporehe, sought their consent on the agreement earlier reached to form a unity government to which they both agreed and the swearing-in of the Central Executive Committee (CEC) was carried out by an elder of the community, Mr. Opiri Onorioke as delegated by the eldest man, Pa Ebireri Unuanovwen.
Members of the Central Executive Committee, included Chief John Ewenede JP, President General; Chief Victor Onadiemo, Vice President General; Chief Austin Etata, Secretary General; Mr. Sunday Okreghe, Financial Secretary; Mr. Ejiro Ekpoko, Public Relations Officer (PRO); Pastor Israel Azagba Assistant Secretary General and Engr. Peter Arumala; Treasurer.
Speaking to journalists after the swearing in ceremony, Chief Ewenede said that he was happy that the crises had been amicably settled, adding that the previous inauguration was cancelled due to litigations challenging it.
He said that for the interest of peace they decided to harmonise to form a government of Unity, adding that the interest and peace of the community was considered above every other personal interest, just as he urged everybody to embrace the new found peace by maintaining law and order in the area.
Chief Ewenede commended his opponent, Mr Sunday Okreghe, for embracing the peaceful resolution of the leadership impasse in the community, promising to carry every body along and use his office to attract development to the community.
Reacting to the inauguration of the Oviri-Olomu Community Central Executive Committee, Barr Mackson Oruma attributed the truce reached to the work of God, saying that it was an indication that God had heard the prayer and yearnings of the people of the community.
It would be recall that crisis threw the community into so much confusion and insecurity.
