The leadership crisis rocking Ika South Legislative arm has deepened.

The matter got worsened today being Wednesday, July 27, 2022 when group of acclaimed majority resisted that the embattled Leader, Rt. Hon. Solomon Igudia and others from entering the Chambers without prior notice of any sitting.

Speaking to newsmen at the local government Council, the newly installed leader of the legislative arm, Hon. Okonta Egbon Donald, reiterated the interest of his group which according to him, were the majority, disclosing that their aim was to correct some anomalies that could hinder the well meaning councillors from bringing government dividends to the masses that voted them.

He explained that the suspension of the four members which included him, was baseless and lacks merit as the meeting was concocted by selected few after the resolution of the majority to impeach the embattle leader.

He said, “Rt. Hon. Solomon Igudia was impeached by more than 2/3 majority of the house who thereafter carried on with her decision to install me as the new leader of the legislative house.

“Igudia’s impeachment was on the ground of gross misconducts amongst other crime that were against the legislative law, and subsequently signed by fourteen (14) out of a total number of twenty (20) Councillors.”

Hon. Okonta when asked about members that were noted to have denied signing the said impeachment letter, he said those in question acted out of fear having been threatened of not getting their salaries.

“Those that claimed to have suspended us don’t have the capacity to do so because they are the minority,” he added.

Speaking in the same vein, Hon. Okonta encouraged his colleagues to keep calm and key into the new leadership system so as to enable them move Ika South forward.

He further promised to lead a vibrant house whereby the interest and wishes of the people that elected them into the council will be achieved, and in the same vein assured of a robust house and partnership with the executive arm headed by Hon. Evangelist Sunny Tatabuzogwu.

It would be recalled that  Rt. Hon. Igudia was impeached in a communique allegedly signed by majority of the councillors and was made viral yesterday being Tuesday, July 26, 2022 while another publication indicating the suspension of four (4) members of the house, emerged dramatically.

Details on Rt. Hon. Solomon Igudia response to the matter will be publish shortly.
