Journalist Lays Foundation, Donates N1 Million To Delta NUJ Lockup Shops

A renowned journalist cum business man, Asiwaju Sola Adebayo, has performed the landmark foundation laying ceremony for the construction of six lock up shops at the premises of the Press Center, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council.

The facility, when completed would generate income to the Council and is intended to meet the growing need for the Council to be independent.

The ceremony was performed on 4th February 2024, shortly after the thanksgiving service organized to mark the victory of the Power Team, in the October 18th election.

Addressing the gathering, Comrade Adebayo, said the move was apt, noting that the Comrade Churchill Oyowe-led administration started on a good foot.

He disclosed that he would by the special grace of God, mobilized his friends to commit resources to the project and any other projects the Union leadership would embark on.

He used the medium to charge the Union members in the State to raise the bar and live up to their expectations as journalists than going cap in hand.

He tasked the leaders to come up with inhouse training programmes for members to be abreast with the rudiments of the profession.

Meanwhile, Comrade Adebayo, donated a whooping sum of N1 million as part of his contribution to the successful execution of the project.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Council chairman, Comrade Churchill Oyowe, appreciated members for attending the event.

He revealed that the lockup shops, was not a plan recently initiated, stressing that from the foundation of the NUJ Secretariat, there was a plan to build lockup shops.

He noted that there are more other projects in the pipeline lined up for short, medium and long term to be executed by the leadership of the Union.
