The Isoko National Youth Assembly (INYA) has strongly condemned the illegal arrest of comedian Ajirioghene Otagba, popularly known as MC 2Kingdom, allegedly orchestrated by Chief Matthew Edevbie, the contractor responsible for the abandoned 132 KVA Substation Electricity Project in Ozoro, Isoko north local government area, Delta State.
Reports indicate that Edevbie ordered the arrest of Otagba for criticizing the prolonged abandonment of the project, which was meant to improve power supply in the region.
In a statement issued on Saturday, INYA President, Comrade Eniwake Orogun, warned of dire consequences if Otagba was not immediately and unconditionally released.
The youth group called on Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, to intervene, urging former governorship aspirant and Edevbie’s brother, Olorogun David Edevbie, to ensure Otagba’s release.
INYA emphasized that Otagba’s video merely highlighted the abandonment and vandalism at the project site, aligning with the Federal Government’s whistleblowing policy. Instead of silencing criticism, the contractor should have explained any challenges hindering the project’s completion.
The group expressed further outrage over the manner of the arrest, noting that while the alleged “offense” occurred in Ozoro, Delta State, Edevbie had Otagba arrested in Lagos and prepared for transfer to Abuja—a move they described as pure intimidation.
INYA made it clear that they would not stand by and watch as one of their own is targeted for demanding accountability. They warned that if Otagba was not charged to court within the constitutionally allowed time, they would resist the move with unprecedented force.
Anticipating possible false allegations against Otagba, including threats to life or defamation, INYA stated that they were prepared for any tactics aimed at silencing him.
Olorogun David Edevbie was urged to prevent further damage to his family’s reputation by ensuring the immediate release of Otagba.
Delta State Governor was called upon to act swiftly to prevent tension and unrest from escalating in Isoko.
INYA concluded by stating that they would not hesitate to lead mass action if justice was not served
