In a determined move to maintain peace, improve basic education, and strengthen food security, the leadership of Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State has taken bold steps across key sectors.

Addressing recent concerns about security, the council chairman, Hon. Warri Ovoke Friday, revealed how swift action was taken to resolve a herders’ intrusion incident in Idjese Community.

He made the revelation while addressing a press conference on Monday July 14, 2025, in his office at the council Secretariat in Isoko South local government area to.mark his one year anniversary in office.

According to him, a cattle owner sent his herd, accompanied only by two young herders, into farmlands without notifying the community.

Concerned about potential crop destruction, community leaders invited the owner for dialogue.

“We are predominantly farmers, and we pleaded with him to take the cows away,” the chairman recounted.

“But he insisted the land was fertile and refused to leave. We had to involve security agencies, and the matter was finally resolved at the DSS office in Asaba. Today, Isoko South remains peaceful.”

On the education front, the chairman expressed concern over the poor state of primary schools upon assumption of office.

He lamented widespread teacher absenteeism, stating that many staff treated the schools as “no man’s business.”

“A comprehensive staff screening exercise was launched, and a full report is now ready for implementation.

“During one of my visits, I asked a teacher how she’d feel if her own children were treated the way she treated her pupils, she broke down in tears,” he said.

To alleviate the financial burden on families and promote learning, the council began distributing exercise books to all primary school pupils.

In the area of agriculture, the council is piloting a large-scale farming initiative to combat food insecurity.

“Our pepper farm is doing relatively well, and we’ve already begun harvesting,” the chairman proudly announced. “If the pilot proves successful, we will expand it.”

Through these proactive initiatives in security, education, and agriculture, Isoko South is steadily charting a path toward sustainable development and community wellbeing.
