INSECURITY: Joint Security Groups To Tackle Criminality In Delta Communities

A joint security operatives comprising of a formidable local security outfit known as Agbor Gha-Ihun Vigilante group and Owa Youths Council (OYC), vigilante have come together to end insecurity and other social vices in Ika land.


The agreement was reached on Wednesday May 26th 2021, during a courtesy visit by Agbor Gha-Ihun Vigilante Group on the reformed OYC.

Speaking during the visit, Chairman of Agbor Gha-Ihun Vigilante Group who doubles as the Special Assistant to Delta State Governor on Land and Waterways Security, Comr. Monday Kiyem, also known as Maduma, congratulated the new OYC team led by Comrade, Hon. Friday Hero Okoh, Special Assistant to the governor on Youth Development.

He explained that Agbor Gha-Ihun Vigilante group considered the courtesy visit to Owa Youths Council Vigilant necessary on hearing that the Owa monarch, His Royal Majesty, Dr. Emmanuel Efeizomor II, has inaugurated the group and also commissioned a well furnished office for OYC to effectively discharge their duties.

The Agbor monarch, HRM Dr. Benjamin Ikenchuku, Keagborekuzi 1, did at the inauguration of Agbor Gha-Ihun which according to him was duty bound to assist the police in combating crime in Agbor and its environs.

Speaking further, Comr. Kiyem narrated the incidence and prevalence of rural banditry in northwest Nigeria, which he said has raised a fundamental question about the Federal government’s ability to govern effectively, adding that the state security machinery has so far failed to tackle the scourge of banditry, thereby bringing the presence of vigilantes to assist the police in securing communities.

It was at this juncture that the call for synergy by both groups was made to effectively secure Ika land against bandits.

He encouraged the members of OYC Vigilant to be focused, trust worthy and determined in the discharge of their duties, pointing out that though the job was base on volunteerism, but soon they would enjoy its benefits.

Comr. Kiyem thanked the OYC Chairman for the warm reception accorded him and his team and also assured that together they would rid Ika land of criminal tendencies.

On his part, the Chief Security Officer of OYC and Senior Special Assistant to Governor on Youth Development, Hon. Friday Hero Okoh, expressed his pleasure for having their brothers from another kingdom on the visit which he described as unique.

He observed that Agbor Gha-Ihun Vigilante was indeed top-notch in community policing, saying that the need for Owa Youths Council Vigilant to join force in securing Ika land was sacrosanct.

“We must work together to secure our home (Ika land) against enemies who are the unknown gunmen. There are no walls seperating Owa and Agbor but invisible boundaries which of course binds us together as one family.

He sighted the recent attack on the police at Akwukwu-Igbo where a serving Assistant Superintendent of Police was killed and patrol van burnt, thereby affirming that they would not allow such incident to occur in Ika land.

Hero assured of OYC partnership with Agbor Gha-Ihun Vigilante while encouraging the visitors to remain strong.

The visit was joined by respected community leader, High Chief Nkemchor Chukwuemeke Okwuokenye, The Ine of Owa kingdom who in his show of love and support to security, donated five electric security gadgets to Owa Youths Council Vigilant.

The humble Chief who is the proprietor of Calvary Polytechnic in Owa, Ika northeast local government area of the state, assured more support for the group just as he encouraged them not to relent in securing their land effectively.

Also in the visit was Chief Dr. Goddy Buzugbe Iyi, The Odafin-akaezi, who also commended the boys for their resolve to secure Ika land.
