… say hunger protest, timely

The last one year of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for many Nigerians, has been a renewed suffering as the eight-point agenda seemed to have failed to tackle high cost of living standard and unemployment.

Agitations have widely grown for Tinubu to go back to the drawing board on some of his policies to ease the rising cost of living.

An Anglican Cleric, Ven. Dr. Jephthah Ekaeke, is of the view that Tinubu’s reform policies have made life harder for the masses, insisting that the issues, particularly hunger should be addressed.

The Anglican Priest spoke Friday July 26, 2024, shortly after he gave exposition on Isaiah Chapters 1-11 at the ongoing Anglican Children Ministry (ACM), 10th Provincial Teachers ‘ Conference held at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Ozoro, Isoko north local government area of Delta State.

The Conference has the theme: “Infant Jesus: Our Perfect Example”, with Luke 2:52 as lead Scripture.

Hear him: “The nation, as it is now, we are gradually getting to a point where people can’t eat three square meal because we have been driven to the wall. Instead of entering into the wall, we are at the point of turning back.

“Because as I said, before now, you see scavengers everywhere looking for food in the dustbins but you can’t find any food in the dustbin because people don’t have enough to eat let alone eat then have others to throw away.

“You can see that everybody is suffering, many cannot afford three square meal a day.

“The level of hunger is in alarming dimension and at such, there is a proposed hunger protest that will take place.

“And I have told people humorously that I will join them if it continues like this. People says Nigerians are dosile because we are good at analysis.

“We can analyze situations but we can’t put our analysis into practice.

“If you recall the man at the helm of affairs now, was a man who organized and led protest in this country.

“He was a man who glamored for good governance and today, he is in the saddle and Nigerians are witnessing what we have not witnessed before.

“I believe that the protest is timely. My prayer is that the government should do well to listen to the masses because the masses are suffering.

“Again, at this critical point in our history, when people are hungry, the government deemed it fit to purchase a presidential private jet for Tinubu.

“It is the same government appealing to people to be patient. So, it is paradoxical for the government to say be patient, appealing to everybody; the masses to be patient while they go about with their luxurious lives acquiring private jet and if you see their convoys going, it’s something else.

“So, I believe that the nation is at a crossroad. The earlier the government addresses these issues, the better for us, particularly the issue of hunger.

“The policies are not working because the policies are not converted to into actions.

“I call them deceptive policies. The president obviously has economic team. What is the economic team actually doing?

“They are not doing enough, until they do enough, they are not doing anything”, he declared.
