Ahead of the 2023 governorship election, the gubernatorial candidate under the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), His Excellency, Olorogun Barr. Kenneth Gbagi, has been endorsed by a group known as Better Delta Movement (BDM), from Uvwie local government area of Delta State to contest the exalted seat of the governor.
Already, several groups, including “Take Back Naija”, “Delta Obidients”, have joined forces to ensure that Gbagi wins the election.
President of Better Delta Movement, Bishop Festus Orakpo Ukwade, disclosed that the group has spread in Okpe, Sapele, Ethiope west, Isoko South and Uvwie council areas.
According to him, “Better Delta Movement, Uvwie LGA, decided to come together and take what belongs to us. Delta State belongs to all of us and what belongs to everybody cannot be misused by one man.
“So, we say enough is enough. We are doing this today by coming together in one heart because of our children because we are of age but we have children.
“We decided to say we cannot leave the State like this. The State is not for one man, it’s for everybody. Some people have hijacked the destinies of others because they rule the State like their own State.
“Better Delta Movement, says let us go together and join hands with better governance, so that we can take what belongs to us. I left politics because of the way it was in 1983. I return due to what happened during the #ENDSARS.
“Our children cannot be in the State while their children are in School
If they say let die it should not be our children to die, rather it should be that our children should takeover our state.
“The time has come for us to take over our State, and that is why the movement for today, for a better Delta.
“Our schools and hospitals are dying, roads are not passable anymore, electricity is another problem, companies have left us.
“Delta State like we know has different seaports but today, no one is operating because of bad governance.
“Your Excellency, we saw the vision that you have for Delta State and we say let us be part of it because we need a man like you with dream, vision for us and our grandchildren.
“We are ready to go with you so that we can have a better future for our children” Ukwade, added.
The leading governorship candidate who received and commended the group assured them that he knows what he would do to bring the suffering of Deltans to an end.
He charged them to go back to base and carryout a grassroot awareness campaign for SDP in their LGAs
“I want us to go back not only you that are here now, you have sisters, brothers, wives, husband. Go and tell them that you know somebody who can liberate Delta State.
“Our mothers our fathers have been made poor so that they can control them. That is where we have found ourselves and unless we take the right decision, it will continue”.
He called on them to cast their votes for him by voting the Social Democratic Party to solve “our issues and problems”.
“I have the connection and the wherewithal to make it good for us. I would like the situation where we will get it right. I have said my government will emancipate the youths from the street.
“All the youths in the State will be registered in their LGAs and we will start paying them N30, 000. It is the duty of government to look for work for the citizenry”, the largest employer of labour in the State, assured.
