Group Petitions Delta Attorney General Over Alleged Murder Attempt

A pro-democracy and human rights group, Take It Back (TIB), has put the Delta State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Isaiah Bozimo Esq on notice over alleged case of attempted murder on a tricycle rider, Omensa Borderick by two dismissed Police Officers to wit: Sgt. Felix Ebikabowei and Ndubuisi Abazie respectively attached to B’ Division Warri.

In a petition titled “re: a case of attempted murder on Mr. Omesa Borderick by two dismissed police officers to wit: SGT. Felix Ebikabowei and Ndubuisi Abazie respectively attached to ‘B’ division Warri who were on illegal duty under investigation by the investigating police officer (IPO) Onyema Nwaojigba of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) of the Delta State Police Command Asaba dated 17/11/2021 signed by her State Coordinator, Comrade Ighorhiohwunu Aghogho, the group opines as follows:

“It will be recalled, in a statement credited to DSP. Bright Edafe, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), affirmed that, the Delta State Police Command on 17/9/2021 released a press statement dismissing two Police Officers for seriously assaulting Mr. Broderick Omesan while on illegal duty and to be charged to court on completion of investigation.”

“That according to Delta State PPRO, “the two Officers namely Sgt. Felix Ebikabowei and Ndubusi Abazie respectively before their dismissal were attached to ‘B’ Division Warri”.

“On 12/8/2021 after close of work, the duo conspired among themselves and engaged in illegal duty along Estate Roundabout Warri to maim Mr. Borderick Omesan, a tricycle rider.”

“The duo accosted the said Tricycle rider, Mr. Borderick Omesan ‘M’, age 36years of Oviri Street Agbaro and an argument ensued between the Policemen and the victim during which they allegedly pushed and beat him up which led to serious injuries on his head. The victim was rushed to Bryant Hospital Warri where he was treated”

“The Commissioner of police upon receiving the complaint immediately directed that the case be transferred to SCID for discreet and unbiased investigation”
“The investigation later revealed that the two officers have a case to answer on the serious assault on the victim who was in critical condition as at that time.”

“The Commissioner of police again ordered that they should face the internal disciplinary action and the command provost was directed to try them in an orderly room.”

“The two officers who were tried for the offence of incivility to members of the public, disobedience to lawful order contrary to paragraph E(iii) first schedule of the Police Act and Regulations CAP P.9 laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 2004 were found guilty on both counts and have been dismissed from the force W.E.F 14/9/2021.”

“While the Commissioner of police was condoling with the family of the victim has ordered that the dismissed policemen remain in custody at the state criminal investigation department and they will be charged to court a soon as investigation is concluded.”

“It is upon these grounds, your office is hereby put on Notice, to be abreast with facts of the case for the purpose of dispensing justice in accordance to law.”, the petition stated
