The growing popularity of the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), His Excellency, Olorogun Barr. Kenneth Gbagi OON among Deltans, is gathering momentum as supporters of the presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP) Peter Obi, are endorsing him to show their support for him.
The gubernatorial election is slated to hold in March 2023, and campaigns are gradually winding down.
However the upcoming election appears to have a different scenario, away from the usual “Delta is PDP and PDP is Delta”, slogan with the entrance of the SDP flag bearer.
Days before the PDP governorship primaries held on May 25th 2022, Gbagi defected to the Social Democratic Party and became the governorship candidate of the party.
Since he became SDP’s standard bearer for the 2023 gubernatorial poll, Gbagi has not only popularized the party, the support for him has grown tremendously with many youths and support groups pledging to work for his victory.
The latest of the endorsement of Gbagi, as the preferred choice for the number one seat of the state, took place on Monday February 13th 2023, by various Peter Obi support networks, rooting for a credible candidate with capacity, character, integrity and the technical know-how to industrialize the State.
The growing support for Gbagi, among the dissatisfied Deltans is borne out of understandable frustration with the system, specifically the fact that the governorship candidates of the two main political parties, the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) Sheriff Oborevwori and All Progressives Congress (APC) Ovie Augustine Omo-Agege are symbolizing the business as usual brand of politics that has led Delta State and Nigeria, to the brink of economic collapse.
Fielding questions from participants at the meeting, the former minister of state for education, lamented that the State is in an eyesore situation, where insecurity and joblessness have become the order of the day.
“Delta State was more powerful than Lagos yesterday but today, look at the State, nothing to write home about.
“We are closing up into debt, insecurity, darkness and all manner of things that ought not to happen in a State where there are human beings. So, that is the narrative that will change from day one.
Asked of his administration’s plans for women across the State, the largest employer of labour in the State said: “Obviously, I agree with you that women, more particularly that of Delta State, have been completely abused, the singular reason why I decided to make my Deputy Governor a woman.
“My Deputy Governor, is from Kwale, a mother and a responsible woman at that. I will not do less than 10 female Commissioners in my government by the grace of God”, he assured.
Earlier, the Director of Peter Obi in Diaspora, Dr. David Solomon, informed the OBEDIENTS that the SDP gubernatorial candidate, was prepared to deliver the dividends of democracy to Deltans.
According to him, ‘We all must be involved to take back power from their hands and we have somebody that we can stand behind who is not corrupt and not looking for stolen money to do whatever thing that he is doing but he is doing the best he can to redeem and liberate Delta.
“He promised to improve agriculture and cash crops in all the households in Delta State. Do you know that there are some countries, all they depend on is their agricultural produce and that is one of the things that have enriched them.
“Part of the things that Gbagi’s administration is going to do, is that he is going to revive all the rubber production that we use to have and what does that means? Employment!
“He also promised that he is going to introduce mechanized farming to enhance cassava production”, Dr. Solomon, disclosed.
