…vow to boost workers’ capacity, competence
Ahead of the forthcoming election, leading governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), His Excellency, Olorogun Barr. Kenneth Gbagi OON, has promised that his administration would spare no efforts at improving the competencies of officials in the civil service.
He disclosed that civil servants would go through training and retraining of staff in line with the rules establishing civil service commission.
According to him, there are plans by his government to assuage the cry of many civil servants over wage disparities in the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) that has lingered over the years and nonpayment of pensions and gratuities to retirees and pensioners.
Gbagi, gave the assurance on Wednesday January 11th 2023 in Asaba, while fielding questions from leaders and members of Deltans Fixing Delta, a pressure and political support group in the State.
He noted that the state under his watch, would not engage the services of consultants but would reposition the Civil Service for effective and efficient service delivery to the people.
The former minister of state for education who is abreast with the workings in the civil service, explained using consultants would be to the detriment of the state and civil servants.
He maintained that repositioning of the civil service would subscribe to the goal of efficient service delivery, transparency and openness.
He reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to transforming the entire civil service in the state by providing enabling environment for effective service delivery, training and retraining of it’s workforce thereby promoting professionalism, accountability and transparency.
Hear him: “The civil service as it is today need to be really energized. I am not going to use consultants in the place of civil servants.
“The implication is this, were I to bring consultants from outside, I am empowering those consultants at the expense of my State and my Civil Servants.
“So, my civil servants will be trained and out in such a state that they can do the work and do it even better with the instrumentality of governance.
“So, this government will not use consultants, we will use civil servants and we will train them and bring experts all over the civil service in the way that we need a proper civil service to run for our State”, he added.
