The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Delta State Command, Udeme Bassey Eshiet has disclosed that the corps recorded 17 road crashes with three deaths between 15th December 2023 and 15th January 2024 during the yuletide season in the State.
He said the road crashes were minor, saying three persons died during the season due to the accidents while two were fatal.
Addressing journalists on Friday January 26th 2024, at the Press Center, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, he noted that compared to other years, there was a rapid reduction of crashes in the ember months.
He disclosed that the crashes occured due to overspeeding and non-compliance to road safety tips by drivers.
Hear him: “In fact, it was really commendable this time around. We had 17 Road crashes from 15th of December 2023 to 15th of January 2024, only two was fatal and we have three people dead.
“The 17 others were just minor. We are happy that just because of our visibility on the road and just because of these incidents that happened, we paid a visit to the NURTW during their first meeting this year.
“I told them and assured them of the Corps commitment to make roads safe and to reduce road crashes on our roads and we will stop at nothing, we will ensure that it is done the way it should be done”, he declared.
