No fewer than six officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) serving in Delta State have allegedly beaten a commercial driver after the later unprofessionally blocked the driver with their Hilux Van on the expressway.
Trouble started on Monday evening when the driver of a Sienna car was accosted by the FRSC officers for trying to evade check when he was flanked down.
It was gathered that the vehicle was coming from the East when the FRSC official along Onitsha/Asaba expressway suddenly drove in his front in a bid to stop the driver.
According to eyewitnesses, the FRSC officials dragged the driver out from vehicle and started beating him while other passengers were shouting calling for passerby for rescue.
“When we asked the driver what happened, he said the vehicle is going to Lagos when the personnel suddenly used their vehicle to block him.
“The road safety officials usually jumped in front of vehicle. Most times they are action cause accident” Eyewitness explained.
Shouting on the viral video, the victim (driver) said, “I was on motion driving when the road safety official suddenly entered his front with their Hilux Van.
“I tried to apply brake but it was too late and on the process I hit their vehicle. They never stop before they entered my front”
When contacted, the State commander, FRSC, Mr. Eshiet Udeme confirmed the incident, adding that the Commission is handling the matter.
“Yes, if it issue on viral video, we are handling the matter” he said.
