The Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA), through its Environmental Unit, has intensified efforts to curb flooding by clearing waste-clogged drainage channels along major roads in the capital territory.
The exercise covered key areas including Summit Road, DBS Road, NTA Road, and other strategic routes.
The large-scale evacuation of waste not only improved water flow in the drains but also enhanced the city’s visual appeal, leaving the affected roads cleaner and better maintained.
According to the Agency, the operation forms part of its ongoing “Secure, Clean, and Green” campaign aimed at protecting the environment, preventing floods, and promoting public health.
Director General of the DSCTDA, Hon. Patrick Ukah, lauded the Environmental Unit for its swift intervention, stressing that the initiative goes beyond drainage clearance.
“This is about protecting lives, property, and the image of our capital city,” Ukah said.
“A clean, well-drained environment reduces flood risks, prevents disease outbreaks, and improves the quality of life for everyone.”
He emphasized that maintaining cleanliness is a shared responsibility, urging residents to stop indiscriminate dumping of refuse, particularly into drains, and to comply with sanitation regulations.
Ukah assured that the Agency will sustain regular desilting of drainage channels, monitor waste disposal practices, and step up public sensitization to entrench lasting environmental discipline across the capital territory.
