The campaign trail of the Governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), His Excellency, Olorogun Barr. Kenneth Gbagi, has sent some jittery messages to the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in Patani local government area of Delta State.
Patani local government is considered the stronghold of PDP and former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Mr Basil Ganagana.
The PDP in Patani local government area after SDP stormed the LGA for campaign, seems to be collapsing as fear gripped her seeing her members keep moving in droves into the Social Democratic Party, to join forces with the social movement in entrenching good governance within the state.
It was a festival of defection as a handful of founding fathers of the party left to the SDP in Patani LGA.
The LGA Chairman, Rev. P. E Eweke, in his address, said the mammoth crowd are genuine members of SDP in Patani and not hired crowd as seen PDP and APC.
“Sir, the members of SDP in Patani local government area are so much grateful to receive you. Since from the onset of SDP when I became the LGA Chairman since 2017 till date, no SDP leader not to talk of a governorship candidate from the state that have visited this local government.
“You are the first person that is visiting as a gubernatorial candidate that is visiting us. It is a plus one to me because we have been seeing other people’s own but today, they have seen my own.
“People used to say that Patani is own by PDP but I disagree with them. Patani local government cannot be own by a particular party.
“I want to tell you that SDP still have their own people here in Patani local government. Sir, I want you to know that all the Ward Chairmen you are seeing here are our members, we don’t borrow members.
“If you like us, you come, if you don’t like, you stay where you are. We don’t beg people. We preach the good news if SDP, if you are interested come back and join us.
“Sir, all the people you are seeing here, is as the result that we have for the party and for you. I want to assure you that you have these people as members of SDP and your supporters that will stand by you come sun and rain, we are behind you”.
It was learnt that shortly after the rally, Basil Ganagana and some topnotch of the PDP in the area, put calls across the party leadership.
A source who spoke, said PDP, didn’t expect such a mammoth crowd of party faithful to be mobilized by a party they thought has no popularity in the area.
